No sportscaster was as hot as Stu Scott. Stu changed the game and opened up the door for main stream media to get a glimpse of the African American Sports Experience. The way that Stu gave play by play is exactly how you will hear it in many black barbershops, on church steps, and high school locker rooms across this country. The mainstream media was lucky to finally get a piece of how we incorporate sports into all forms of entertainment, including movies and music. Stu had the knack to draw in his audience and make them feel like they were a part of the show. From Allen Iverson's sick crossover to Tiger Wood's shot for eagle, Stu kept us all coming back for more. R.I.P. Stuart Scott, a Sports Icon.

A couple of days ago, I was talking with my oldest son who was telling me about a movie he recently watched on Netflix called the "The Secret". I watched it the other night and was very pleased with it. Without giving away the plot, it is an excellent movie with positive concepts. I don't know if I liked the movie as much I liked the fact that a 20 year old thought it was good entertainment. In these days of hardcore crappy rap that most of my kids listen to or hardcore crappy cartoons that they watch, it was a nice change.
What a start to the new year. I had a crazy day on the 1st that I blogged about that went somewhere in cyberspace to never be found again. It was probably a good idea as after my lovely evening I found something else to blog about.
Met my friend who I see maybe once or twice a year due to both of our busy schedules for drinks. It's funny how you can see someone once or twice a year and still pick up where you left off. Friends....how many of us have them? 1st post of the year! I must start by saying "Happy 20th Birthday" to my 1st born Kenric Paxton Cook Jr.. I am so proud of the man you have become. Working hard on a Construction Management degree at the University of Central Missouri! I can't believe e is 20. Time sure does fly. There are big things in store for him and I know he will accomplish them.
Wife and mother of 4 sons, to say I lead an abnormally busy life is an understatement. I work full time, tutor first grade students, and also go to school full time. A few months ago, I woke up in the morning and began my daily ritual of first, checking my phone to see what my Facebook notifications were. That was when it hit me, I am spending too much of the time that I don't have on Facebook. I decided at that moment that I would give my mind a break and close out my Facebook account for one year. I also decided that I would blog daily about what my life was like without Facebook. Would I get more accomplished? How bad would I miss it? What about the family members that I only talk to using Facebook?
With so many questions, I knew in order for me to be successful in this endeavor I had to prepare. First, in October, I started the tedious process of going through all the pictures that I had downloaded to Facebook since 2009. I could not believe how much of my life I had exposed for the world to see. Some of the memories left me cracking my side in laughter while others made me cry tears of sadness. It was an eye opening experience. Next, I went through all of my messages to get addresses and phone numbers of family and friends that I had requested their information to get in touch with them at a later date. Last but not least, I created this site. |
